Misses SM-3XL.    As the Victorian age drew to a close at the beginning of the 20th century and the Edwardian age dawned, women entered the arenas of sports and the workforce. Women need a more practical and casual wardrobe.  The combination of skirt and shirtwaist (blouse) was born to meet these changing needs of the early 20th century American woman. This was the skirt they wore, because it was comfortable and yet unencumbered by bustles and hoops. Our gored Walking Skirt sewing pattern is smoothly fitted in front and flares from a narrow waistband to street or full length.  Our original is made of linen and decorated with cutwork embroidery, also known as Broderie Anglaise.  Even though the Victorian bustle was passé by this time, the voluptuous s-curve shape was still desirable, so tiny gathers below the back waist
