This Mendoza wine has received good scores from various critics. Critic tasting note: (2021 vintage) Catena Alta is a blend of two of the first vineyards that Catena planted (circa 1992) in the Uco Valley, the first in Villa Bastías (Domingo Vineyard), at about 1,150 meters above sea level, and the other, 300 meters higher, in Gualtallary (Adrianna), which is now the source of their best malbecs and some of their best whites. This is a classic example of the zone—the aromas of ripe white fruits are mixed with saline touches that seem to come from the soils rich in calcium carbonate, and the body is round and generous, but with a touch of acidity that gives it nerve.
