As I mentioned last month, I'm tackling Marie Kondo's best-selling The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing in baby steps. (Hey, it's going to take a while to work through thirtysomething years of clutter.) I guessed in last month's post that I wouldn't become someone who folds her socks—one of Marie's recommendations—but guys, I did. And it's kind of awesome. The only drawer I've wrangled in my dresser is the sock drawer, but ta-da! Marie says that storing socks in balls stresses them out and doesn't show them the proper respect. Don't my socks seem Zen? Except that pink-striped pair in the bottom row is kind of stressing me out now. But I went ahead and did all three of my son's dresser drawers. Socks on the left, short-sleeve tees on the right. Bathing suits on the left (he swims twice a day at camp in the summer), shorts on the right. Tiny boxer briefs on the left (!), summer pajamas on the right. The only problem is, this isn't all of his clothes. Marie insists one dresser should be enough for ALL of your clothing if you only keep the stuff you love.
