This rare English military cane would have once been used by a regimental sergeant major as a pace stick. Consisting of two pieces of wood, the hinged shaft opens to the fixed position of the length of one pace. Both a symbol of rank and an aid in military drills, the pace stick ensures rhythm and uniformity for troops on parade.38 1/4" length
