Topaz on Smoky Quartz, Alabashka, Yuzhakovo, Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia, thumbnail, 3.0 x 1.7 x 1.3 cm, This superb thumbnail consists of a glassy, pale blue, totally gem, 1.9 cm Topaz crystal in associating with a few lustrous, Smoky Quartz crystals clustered at its base from this famed Russian locality in the Alabashka Pegmatite Field. The Topaz has perfect textbook form with sharply formed prism and pyramid faces and is flawless except for the negative impression on the back from where another Topaz crystal grew. The Smoky Quartz cluster at the base provides perfect contrast with the more prominent crystal measuring 1.6 cm in length. A singular thumbnail from this famous pegmatite district probably originating from the Mokrushka Mine within the field (comparing to photos in mindat.org). Ex Irv Brown thumbnail collection
