A rare and unusual German Jugendstil copper and brass smokers companion or candleholder formed as a goat pulling a sleigh the design attributed to renowned sculptor Ignatius Taschner (German, 1871-1913) for WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) and dating from around 1902 with a scratched date mark to the base. The piece is formed as a cut out brass goat figure with carved detail wearing a harness and pulling a sleigh, the brass runners mounted with a square hand planished copper ashtray or candleholder with a raised copper match box holder attached to the back with brass strapping. The design is very similar to a number of smoking accessory pieces designed by Taschner including a series of animal and bird cigar and cheroot cutters. The match holder has a running ostrich mark impressed to the side. In good condition. WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) marked to match holder. Circa 1902 with a scratch date mark to the base.
