This Class V2 2-6-2 steam locomotive was designed by Sir Nigel Gresley for the London and North Eastern Railway and was built at Doncaster in 1936. It was withdrawn from service in 1962. Gresley was the foremost British locomotive designer for 30 years from 1911, and was responsible for the streamlined 'Silver Jubilee' and 'Coronation' trains of the mid 1930s. In 1938, his A4 Pacific class 4-6-2 'Mallard' achieved a world record speed for a steam locomotive of 126mph , a record which remains unbroken to this day. 'Green Arrow' is shown here hauling a York to Scarborough special train in the 1980s. Obtenha fotos jornalísticas preminum de alta resolução em getty
